Ninoslava Pećnik was born in 1965 in Zagreb. She graduated from the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Zagreb in 1990 on the topic of 'Dating violence and attitudes toward wife battering'. At the same department she obtained her MA degree in 1993 on validating the child abuse potential inventory and in 2001 her doctoral degree with the thesis 'Intergenerational transmission of physical child abuse. "
She is a Head of the Chair for Psychology at the Department of Social Work where she is a bearer of the undergraduate courses ‘Introduction to Psychology’, 'Social Psychology', 'Child Abuse and Neglect', graduate course 'Family Policy, Parenting, Children' as well as postgraduate courses 'Contemporary Parenting', 'Contemporary Parenting and the Rights of the Child’ and 'Contemporary Studies in Social Work'.
She has led or participated in several nation-wide research projects on parenting attitudes, practices and parenting support services including:
She has published, alone or with co-authors, 8 books and around 50 scientific and professional papers. She has supervised doctoral dissertations in the field of parenting and given guest lectures at the University of Örebro in Sweden (at the Department of Psychology-Center for Developmental Research, Department of Social Work and the Swedish Academy of the Rights of the Child), at the University of Oxford, University of Amsterdam, University of Seville, etc. and at post-graduate programs of Departments of Psychology in Zagreb and in Rijeka as well as at the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences.
She was vice president of the Working Group on parenting skills, especially for the prevention of violence against children within the Committee for Social Cohesion of the Council of Europe (2005-2006) and a consultant for the preparation of report underlying the Recommendation 19 (2006) on the policy to support positive parenting. She participated in the establishment of several civil social initiatives active in the areas of providing assistance to victims of violence and was involved in national policy making related to parenting support and child protection. She is a co-author of the internationally implemented parenting support program for parents of young children which was developed under the auspices of UNICEF Office for Croatia and the president of the Center for parenting support ‘Growing Up Together’. In 2011. year she received the Annual Award for the Promotion of the Rights of the Child by the Croatian Government, as well as the Award from Association 'Parents in Action' for distinguished professional contribution to supporting responsible parenting.
