Description
I Determination and areas of social psychology. Methods of social-psychological research.
II. Social perception and cognition: cognizance of social environment (schemes, heuristics in judgment). Perception and judgment of others (creating impressions, attribution models, partiality in attributing, implicit theories of personality). Sources of mistakes in observing and judging people - examples from social work practice.
III. Attitudes (structure and function, attitude determinants, theories of consistency, the relation between attitude and behaviour, persuasion). The influence of the attitudes of social workers on professional activity.
IV. Socialisation processes. Applications of the attachment theory in social work. Social roles. Gender roles (in transition).
V Interpersonal relations: Aggressive behaviour (theoretical explanations; situational determinants, manners of reduction). Pro-social behaviour and altruism (theoretical explanations; situational determinants; promotion). Social support. Close relations.
VI Inter-group processes: Formation and structure of group. Group cohesion and norms. Membership in a group and social identity. Social categorisation. Group dynamics and roles. Influence of the group on the individual's behaviour. Social pressure and conformism. Yielding and submission to authority. Diffusion of responsibility. Leadership and power. Decision-making in the group.
VII Inter-group processes: Stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination. Causes of stereotype and prejudice and manners of their change. Recipients of social welfare as objects of social prejudices.
Conflicts between groups in the community and their resolution.
