Katedra za pomorsko pravo sa zadovoljstvom najavljuje gostovanje g. Orlanda T. Velasqueza iz Veleposlanstva Sjedinjenih Američkih Država, koji će održati predavanje na temu "Security Issues in Transport" u utorak, 8. svibnja 2012. g., dvorana V, TMT 3/III, u 10 sati, na engleskom jeziku.

G. Velasquez voditelj je službe sigurnosti pri Veleposlanstvu SAD-a, sa bogatim iskustvom u radu na raznim zadacima koji uključuju anti-terorističke mjere, implementaciju programa SAD-a za spriječavanje trgovine drogom, ljudima i ostalih kriminalnih aktivnosti diljem svijeta, uključujući Meksiko, Filipine, Afganistan itd.

G. Velasquez govorit će studentima o brojnim otvorenim pitanjima sigurnosti vezanim uz odvijanje modernog prometa, a vezanim uz njegovo bogato praktično iskustvo agenta United States Department of State, Bureau of Diplomatic Security.

Orlando Velasquez Biography

 

Supervisory Special Agent Orlando Velasquez is a graduate of the University of Texas in Austin and joined the United States Department of State, Bureau of Diplomatic Security in August 2000.  He is now the Regional Security Officer, and senior law enforcement officer, at the United States Embassy in Zagreb, Croatia.  Velasquez has served in five previous assignments prior to Croatia.  He arrived to Croatia in September 2011.

 

Velasquez served in Denver, Colorado, for two years working criminal investigations and protective security details for Secretary of State Powell and various foreign ministers.  This tour entailed a two-month temporary assignment to Jakarta, Indonesia, immediately after the September 11, 2001, attacks to provide personal protection for the United States Ambassador.

 

In 2003, Velasquez was directed to Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, for two years as an Assistant Regional Security Officer.  This assignment entailed physical and procedural security programs, in addition to assisting United States federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies from within Mexico.  Velasquez was a member of the El Paso, Texas, Joint Terrorism Task Force and United States Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force.

 

In 2005, Velasquez was assigned to the Philippines for three years as an Assistant Regional Security Officer.  Velasquez worked with the Diplomatic Security Anti-Terrorism Assistance police training program implementing counter-terrorism courses for the Philippine National Police while coordinating with the robust embassy Law Enforcement Working Group.  Velasquez also coordinated personal security details with the U.S. Military Joint Special Operations Task Force-Philippines for embassy staff traveling to the southern Philippines.

 

Velasquez was transferred in 2008 to Diplomatic Security Headquarters in Washington, D.C. where he served as a Senior Desk Officer for Near East Asia; his areas of responsibility entailed North Africa and Yemen.  Velasquez traveled to the region conducting security audits and managed several inter-agency initiatives, to include bolstering anti-terrorism support for the Sana’a International Airport after the attempted bombing of Northwest Airlines Flight 253 bound for Detroit.

 

In 2010, Velasquez volunteered to serve in Afghanistan and worked as a Division Chief at the United States Embassy in Kabul.  He supervised the Protective Security Detail program consisting of 270 direct hire and contract personnel responsible for protecting Chief-of-Mission personnel.  He also managed the Anti-Terrorism Assistance Program that trains and equips President Karzai’s personal protection teams.
