After successfully mastering the course, students will be able to:

Knowledge and understanding
Define basic concepts of labour protective rights and social security rights guaranteed at the EU level.
Critically evaluate and recognize the need for the development of EU employment law and social security law and to understand the relationship of the EU acquis and employment law and social security law of EU member states.
Explain the basic concepts of individual and collective employment rights as well as social security rights at the EU level.
Explain the legal opinions presented in the ECJ's settled case law, relevant for the development of EU employment and social security law.


Application
Describe the development of EU employment law and social security law.
Understand the basic concepts of EU employment and social security law.

Illustrate the basic concepts EU employment and social security law developed by the ECJ in its settled case law. Apply knowledge noting any discrepancies of the national employment and social security law with the acquis communautaire.

Analysis
To analyze the case law of the ECJ in the area of labour law and social security law.
Compare the basic concepts of EU labour and social security law with the relevant concepts of national labour and social security law and verify their compliance.
Distinguish between good and bad practices in the area of labour law and social security law.

Synthesis
Collect data on the basic concepts of EU labour and social security law (and find relevant acquis).
Formulate problems that arise when defining labour and social security protection at the EU level.
Formulate opinions about the level of labour and social security protection at the EU level and the need for harmonization of such protection among EU member states.

Evaluation
To decide on the need to harmonize national labour law and social security law among EU Member States.
Assess the compliance of basic concepts of EU labour law and social security law with the relevant concepts provided by the national law.
Evaluate the role of the ECJ in the development of EU labour and social security law.
Assess the need of changing the regulation of basic concepts of EU labour and social security law in order to align with the social changes.

Practical and Generic Skills:

After successfully completing the coursce, the student will be able to: publicly present the adopted knowledge on EU individual and collective labour law and EU social security law; express a clear, well-structured text explaining their viewes on the basics of EU labour and social security law; participate in the work of a team for improving labour and social security protection of EU citizens.

Matching Assessments to Learning Outcomes:

Knowledge will be evaluated by student's essay and oral exam. Student write an essay on a topic agreed upon in collaboration with the teacher. When writing essay, the student is expected to show understanding of selected topic through analysis of the acquis and national law in this area. In that way it will be evaluated, similarly as in the oral examination, understanding the basic concepts of EU labour law and social security law, that is, an understanding of the acquis, in particular through the analysis of relevant case-law of the ECJ.
