Description:

In terms of knowledge, it is expected that students will be able to understand and explain theoretical foundations of casework, and be able to assess advantages and disadvantages of different approaches in concrete work on a case. In terms of skills, it is expected that following the course students will be able to recognise and decide about choosing specific methods and techniques of the casework in the direct practice; depending on the type of issue, to estimate the applicability of individual procedures in casework and to adhere to the ethical standards of the practice. The following values are developed and nurtured within the course: professional values of social work, respecting and accepting differences (gender, national, religious, social), users? perspective and work on personal development. Course description - Historical aspects of casework - Determinations and tasks of social work in the context of casework - Significance of systemic approach in social work - Concept of risk and resilience within ecological multi-systemic perspective - Significance of help in social work - Values and ethics of social work - Importance and role of communication - Antidiscriminative social work practice - Advocating and self-advocating - Importance of the positive relationship between social worker and user - Process of planned changes - Loss and mourning - Providing help in accordance with the specific characteristics of genders - Supervision as a resource of professional help for social workers

Cognitive Skills:

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

1. define and describe theoretical concepts: systemic approach,individual in the environment, concept of risk and resistance in casework, care for mental health of the helper and the role of supervision in psychosocial work

2. define, describe and apply with the support of knowledge and skills related to the process of planned changes and all their phases

3. define and recognise professional values and ethics of social work and analyse their application in institutions and associations that the students visit during practical training

4. define and recognise principles of respecting the perspective of users and the level of their application in the institutins and associations that the students visit during practical trainings

5. define and recognise principles of antidiscriminatory practice, advocating and self-advocating in social work

6. define and recognise specific features of casework regarding gender and sex

7. prepare case history during work on the case, integrating the data from different sources

8. recognise and explain principles of work with the user in the process of mourning and demonstrate knowledge and skills needed to provide support to the user in the process of mourning

9. explain and apply appropriate communication skills in direct work with the user

10. recognise, analyse and evaluate one's own contribution in the process of acquisition of knowledge and skills (one's own resources and limitations) and define one's own reposinibility in lifelong learning process

 

Practical and Generic Skills:

After successfuly completing the course, students will gain:

1. application of practical knowledge and skills in casework

2. respecting and acting in accordance with basic values and ethics of social work

3.ability to comprehend and define different types of difficulties encountered by the users in the light of individual theoretical concepts

4. ability to collect data and their synthesis in a social case history.

5. ability to apply adequate communication skills in casework.

Participation in classes and practical work is obligatory for all full time students, while part time students are obliged to attend practical training and individual lectures in agreement with the teacher. Practical training is intended to experience-based analysis of contents from lectures and include solving problem tasks, group discussion and activities tomaster skills related to the process of planned changes.

Every practical training invclves a written assignment within which the students provide their own review of the contents analysed in practical training and lectures, on the basis of the principles of active learning and critical consideration and prescribed literature.

The students regularly receive feedback about their written assignments, and they store them in maps. The student cannot take examination without having submitted the map, and the quality of papers in it is considered in determining the final grade.

Apart from practical training organised at the faculty, the students are obliged to fulfil obligations outside of the faculty (volunteer work connected with help in a certain humanitarian action, social welfare institution or association) and participation in a certain educational event outside of the faculty (professional meeting, round table, workshop or lecture from the area of psychosocial work) with the preparation of structured nottes containing their own critical review of the cpntents and learning process.

All notes are added to the map that the student submits prior to taking examination.

Two mid-term examinations are held during the course, and the student may pass examination through them. Oral and written examinations are organised during regular examination periods for the students who do not pas the examination through mid-term examinations.

Final grade is formed as a result achieved in written testing, assignments and regular active participation.
