Description:

Practice (Exercises) are performed in order to acquire practical knowledge and skills and are carried out in accordance with the curriculum of studies. The exercises are held in V (winter semester), two hours a week. Participants who regularly fulfill obligations in the exercises get a signature on taken exercises and two corresponding ECTS credits. The student must attend at least three quarters of given exercises and perform the obligations set out from enrollment exercise, the teacher recorded in the index. On exercise students must have the Criminal Code and textbooks of general and specific parts. Exercises are conducted by teachers and collaborators. Collaborators in exercises are prominent legal practitioners, judges, prosecutors, lawyers and other skilled practising lawyers.

Cognitive Skills:

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
After the successful mastering the exercises, students will be able to:
- Understand and explain the fundamental institutions of criminal law dogmatics (actus reus, illegality, mens rea, stages in the commission of a crime, co-perpetration and participation, concurrence, extended criminal offense);
- Identify the crimes and to recognize the importance of applying the institute of criminal law in practice;
- Observe, critically evaluate and recognize the importance of respecting fundamental principles of criminal legislation and case law (principle of legality, the principle of guilt);
- Define the basics and specifics of general and special part of criminal law;
- Group the crimes according to the protected legal goods, recognize and understand the elements of crimes (against life and limb, sexual freedom, honor and reputation, property, liberty, official duty, justice, etc.);
- Understand the importance of liability of legal persons for criminal offenses, and the role and impact of international criminal law on domestic criminal law.

APPLICATION
After the successful mastering the exercises, students will be able to:
- Apply the knowledge gained from the general and special part of criminal law in practice;
- Interpret institutes and other concepts of criminal law, as well as the elements of the offenses in accordance with the relevant methods of interpretation of criminal law norms;
- Demonstrate connections between general and special part of criminal law, and international regulations;
- Use and the correct way to interpret the regulations in the field of criminal law in their daily work.

ANALYSIS
After the successful mastering the exercises, students will be able to:
- Recognize the offenses, their elements, characteristics, aggravated and mitigated forms;
- Identify and sort out the shortcomings of criminal law, its dysfunctional norms and examine the causes and consequences of such standards;
- Examine and categorize the different theoretical models of criminal law dogmatics and their application in the case law;
- Analyze the existing case law in the area of criminal law;
- Compare the Croatian criminal justice system with the criminal justice systems of other countries and to examine its compliance with the basic principles of criminal law of the European Union and international regulations;
- Verify the compliance of norms of criminal law with international rules and regulations of the European Union, as well as the degree and extent of the principle of the rule of law in the area of criminal law and practice.

SYNTHESIS
After the successful mastering of the exercises, students will be able to:
- Prepare the surface for expert analysis of individual institutes of criminal law and criminal offenses;
- Propose the necessary amendments to the criminal law and practice;
- To formulate the basic requirements for improvement of identified deficiencies in the legal and practical level, and propose solutions to improve them;
- Set up the basic documents (judgment, indictment, appeal, etc.).
- Come up with a valid argument claims that represent;

EVALUATION
After the successful mastering the exercises, students will be able to:
- Evaluate the quality, sustainability and feasibility of legal and theoretical institutes of criminal law in practical terms;
- Choose further study of individual segments of criminal law;
- Assess which is the most appropriate area for further sub-specialization;
- Examine and evaluate the quality of the national criminal justice system, as well as its compliance with constitutional norms and norms of international law.

Practical and Generic Skills:

After the successful mastering of the exercises, students will be able to:
- To present to the public the learning outcomes;
- Express clear argument with their own thesis;
- Devise, develop and present their theses and arguments for them;
- Improve communication skills;
- Participate in team work.

Matching Assessments to Learning Outcomes:

1. Representing the first arguments of various parties (defendant, defense, court), to connect and check the learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding, application and analysis;
2. Writing proceeding acts (judgments, indictments, complaints, etc.), for checking connectivity of the learning outcomes - synthesis and evaluation

3. Assessment is the period of the exercise for the monitoring of students and their activity and finally creating documents (verdicts, indictments, complaints, etc.). The criteria for evaluation are all learning outcomes - demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the subject matter of criminal law, the ability to apply the regulations to the hypothetical and real cases from the judicial practice, sucessful argumentation of thesis, working out their own arguments in written documents, the ability of analysis and synthesis, and evaluation of appropriate content adopted during exercise .
