Description
Introduction to key economic theories, concepts and ideas, as well as investigation into their relevance to contemporary social and political issues on a local, national and global scale, by examining the key components of national and international economic systems. Although certain basic and important economic issues are discussed during the course, it does not require a background in economics. Rather, the course aims to help students in their first contact with economic theory to understand the main principles of economics and evolution of contemporary economic systems. The course is built with a balance of historical and theoretical approaches in the study of practical issues, such as an outline of history of economic thought, basic macroeconomic indicators, drivers of economic development growth, as well as regional and international economic relations.
The aims of this course:
Introduction to Economics for lawyers is designed to build an understanding of economic institutions, history, and principles, regardless of students' previous knowledge and experience with economic science and the way of thinking. It will mainly focus on basic concepts of economic theory and relationship between private and public sectors of the economy. Also, it will analyze major economic institutions, such as property rights, markets, business organizations, labor unions, money and banking, trade, and taxation that are of practical interest for future lawyers. Economists have developed a set of widely applicable concepts and tools that are useful for understanding economic situations ranging from decisions that individuals make in everyday life to decisions made by firms and governments in complex markets. The objective of this course is to help students learn and understand these concepts and principles as well as to apply them to real life situations.
