Description:

Information technology and social changes. Concept and origin of information technology. Application areas. Electronic data sources in EU and the Republic of Croatia. Concept, role and impact of Internet to minors and distribution of illegal and immoral topics. Information and communication privacy in cybernetic area. Statistics in social research. Topics of statistical analysis. Statistical sets and statistical observation. Statistical groups and sequences. Aspects of data presentation. Mean values. Dispersion measures. Correlation and regression. Basic concept of probability. Methods of samples. Selection of samples... Statistic hypothesis and hypothesis proofing. TEST

Knowledge and understanding

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

- explain the origin, development and role of information technolgy in modern society (lectures)

- explain the concept, role and influence of the INternet on minors and the distribution of illegal and immoral contents (lectures)

- explain the origin, development and manifestations of electronic business (lectures)

- discuss mutual influence of high technology and personal rights, especially privacy and intellectual property (lectures)

- explain security risks in IT environment and methodology of protection from abuse (lectures)

- list electronic sources of data in the EU and the Republic of Croatia (lectures, practical work)

- recognise the importance and possibilities of the application of statistics in social research (lectures, practical work)

- indicate the object of statistical analysis and methods of determining the source of data (lectures, practical work)

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

- interpret results of the conducted statistical analysis (lectures, practical work)

- interpret provisions of selected legal texts (lectures, practical work)

- apply acquired knowledge on information systems during the usage of computer (lectures, practical work)

 

Analysis

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

- categorise causes of security risks for information systems (lectures, practical work)

- demonstrate knowledge of the legal framework of protection of various type of information (personal data, intellectual property, databases etc.) (lectures, practical work)

- analyse legal regulation in the area of information law (lectures, practical work)

- compare the roles and activity of international organisations in the area of information law and information technologies (lectures, practical work)

- check the results of statistical calculations (lectures, practical work)

- connect theoretical and practical knowledge from the area of statistics and information science (lectures, practical work)

- solve problem oriented tasks by using appropriate statistical methods (lectures, practical work)

 

Synthesis

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

- propose the application of individual statistical methods for a certain type of research (lectures, practical work)

- formulate the manner of collecting, grouping and presenting statistical data (lectures, practical work)

- plan further activities on the basis of conducted statistical methods which point to the future trends of a mass phenomenon (lectures, practical work)

- form visual models of presenting data (lectures, practical work)

- draw a proposal about the selection and implementation of security policy (lectures)

- propose appropriate measures and methods of data protection in information system (lectures)

 

Evaluation

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

- recommend application of appropriate statistical methods for the analysis of mass phenomena (lecture)

- evaluate the existing statistical research (lecture)

- select an appropriate statistical method to determine regularity and legitiimacy in the trends and mutual influence of mass phenomena (lectures, practical work)

- evaluate the results of conducted statistical research (lecture)

- reexamine procedures and manners of data protection in the Republic of Croatia (lecture)

- compare regulatory solutions in the Republic of Croatia with those in comparative law (lecture)

- estimate EU legal standards in the area of information law (lecture)

- reexamine regulatory solutions in the area of computer crime (lecture)

- assess the work of domestic regulatory agencies and other bodies in the area of information law (lecture)

Practical and Generic Skills:

After successfullly mastering the course, students will be able to:

- publicly present learning outcomes;

- express themselves in a clear and structured manner while explaining their standpoints;

- analyse structured and unstructured data using modern IT and software;

- find and select relevant data in electronic environment;

- be a useful member or leadar of a team.

Matching Assessments to Learning Outcomes:

A mixed form of examination consisting of two parts will be used for testing learning outcomes connected with knowledge. Problem oriented tasks and multiple choice questions will be used in the written examination.
