Description:

The main objective of this course is to introduce students to the economic aspect of selected EU institutions, the scope of their activities, institutional organization as well as the rules and regulation relevant to their existence and activities. Teaching units: History of European integration, Institutions of EU, History of EU monetary integration, ECB, EU competition policy, Monopoly, Oligopoly, Monopolistic competition, Environmental policy of EU, EU regional policy, Common agricultural policy, Social Policy, EU budget, EU Energy policy.

Cognitive Skills:

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

- recognise and critically evaluate economic background of certain legal institutes; process of European economc integration; the role of the state in regional economic integration; foundations of economic connection in the EU; interdependance of economic and political relations in national and European economy and the connection and mutual influence of politics, economic and legal systems

- demonstrate connection and interdependence of legal institutions and economic development of individual groups of countries in the EU

- anbalyse effects of common monetary ands fiscal policy in the EU

 

 

 

SYNTHESIS

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

- construct simple maps of connection in the EU economy

- differentiate causes of crises of individual member states of EMU

- formulate basic prerequisites for maximising usefulness of EU membership

After successfully completing the course, students will be able to:

- assess the situation and key problems of EU economy on the basis of mastered analytical instruments and approaches

After successfully mastering the course, students will be able to:

- publicly present learning outcomes;

- express themselves in a clear, adequately structured text explaining their standpoints;

- develop communication skills;

- participate in team work.

Matching Assessments to Learning Outcomes:

- Classes in Economy and Institutions of the EU are conducted as a continuous and proactive learning process in which the emphasis is placed on interaction.

- In that manner a constant two-way communicatiuon is ensured, which stimulated students' engagement and permanent acquisition of learning outcomes.

- Classes are organised in smaller groups for solving individual cases with the aim of encouraging argumented debates.

- Monitoring of work and class activity, and rewarding exceptionally successful students students by allowing them to take mid-term examinations

- Modern audio-visual contents are used in class.

- Several times per semester guest lecturers are invited (renowned representatuves of academic, business, trade union community, or representatives of governmental and other institutions) in order to transfer current and practical knowledge to students and motivate their critical evaluation of events and active mastering- of learning materials.
