Academic and Professional Career:
Graduated from the Faculty of Law University of Zagreb in 1985. At the same Faculty attained an MSc in private international law, thesis “Applicable law for torts in sports with the special emphasis on skiing” in 1990, and defended doctoral thesis “The legal nature of the publisher rights” in 1996. Bar Exam taken and passed in 1988. In 1998 and 2004 respectively awarded a research grant at the Max Planck Institut für Geistiges Eigentum, Wettbewerbs- und Steuerrecht, München.
Professional career started in 1986 as a legal trainee in the legal office. Since 1987 onwards employed at the Chair of Civil Law of the Faculty of Law University of Zagreb, full professor from 2005. In the period 1992–1993 counselor for legal matters at the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Washington, D.C. In the academic years 1997-1999 served as the Vice Dean at the Faculty of Law University of Zagreb. Listed Arbitrator at the Croatian Chamber of Commerce Permanent Arbitration Court, listed Arbitrator for “.hr” Internet domain name. Head of the working group “Intellectual property” in the negotiation Team for Accession of the Republic of Croatia to the European Union.
Member of working groups that drafted the Croatian Copyright and Related Rights Act, the Ownership and other Real Property Rights Act and the Inheritance Act. President of the Croatian Association for the Copyright Law, Croatian National ALAI (Association littéraire et artistique internationale) Group.
Full member of the Croatian Academy of Legal Sciences. Holder of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Art award for outstanding and permanent contribution to the Republic of Croatia in the field of social sciences for the book “Real Property Law” (together with Professor Dr Nikola Gavella, Professor Dr Tatjana Josipović, Professor Dr Vlado Belaj and Professor Dr Zlatan Stipković).
In addition to teaching courses in Civil Law, Copyright Law and Personality Rights at the Faculty of Law University of Zagreb, also lectures at the Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz in Intellectual Property Law within the course Commercial and Corporate Law & SEE, LL.M. in South East European Law and European Integration. Also teaches at the Faculty of Medicine University of Zagreb in Postgraduate studies Biomedicine and Health Services in the course Introduction to the Intellectual Property Law and in graduate studies course Bioethics.
